In her solo exhibition at etc. gallery, Polina Davydenko combines her art practice with her own experiences as a war photographer. She works with artificially built sceneries that become model landscapes for the contemporary reality of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She focuses on the question of images that claim to be realistic but also teeters on the edge of ethics and spectacle. Is it still moral to share photographs of suffering people taken without their permission? Or is it, on the contrary, wrong in terms of value to turn our eyes away from this reality and not reproduce such images?
