Oskar Helcel’s solo exhibition imagines the lineage of the Golden Delicious apple and its market introduction as an allegory of the American Dream. Through the history of cultivation, it reveals how the original story of abundance turns into a critique of contemporary notions of ownership and public space. At its center stands the codling moth larva – an ironic narrator living inside the apple and waiting for its moment. Its grotesque yet unsettling narration unfolds a parable about the spread of capitalist and ultra far-right ideologies that infiltrate everyday reality as well as the very structure of urban space. The exhibition examines how global ideals and disinformation narratives transform when confronted with the local scale, and what remains once the story of abundance begins to decay.
