At first sight, the form of the paintings from the series Trickled Paintings refers to geometrical abstractions created with the help of a ruler and overlaid tape. However, at a closer look we realise that Šimera works with trickled coloured drops. With the greatest precision, he calculates the trajectories of the drops which he lets fall from the top edge of the canvas. The drops on the canvas then behave according to the law of gravity: they trickle directly down to the ground when the painting is turned at a certain angle. Some mistakes caused by ungovernable factors are acknowledged, and left in the paintings. In these paintings, Evžen Šimera’s methods of work maintain a tension between a playful pop colour scheme, and ironic detachment from the expressive painting associated with grand gestures.
