The artist Barbora Kl\u00edmov\u00e1 focuses on paradoxes present in building family housing projects during the era that has idolized collective living. The theoretician of architecture Michaela Jane\u010dkov\u00e1 studies the history of panel housing estates (panel\u00e1kov\u00e9 s\u00eddli\u0161t\u011b). In their presentation, both introduce a number of compromise solutions in individual and collective housing. The lecture looks awry at the history of architecture because it focuses not on success or failure but instead on what results from necessary half measures. At the same time, it explores the in between space\u00a0 where scientific method meets the artistic one.<\/p>\n<p>Barbora Kl\u00edmov\u00e1 is an artist and a winner of the 2006 Jind\u0159ich Chalupecky Award. Last she year she published a book\u00a0<em>We Have Lived This Project\u00a0<\/em>(Prague: Zlat\u00fd \u0159ez, 2011) on the building of family houses under Normalization. Personal memories of architects and owners are accompanied by a text by the sociologist Barbora Vackov\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Michaela Jane\u010dkov\u00e1 is doctorate student of Theory and History of Art at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She works for the Center for Central European Architecture and has contributed to the book Hus\u00e1kovo 3+1 Housing\u00a0<em>Culture<\/em>\u00a0in the 1970s in Czechoslovakia (Praha: V\u0160UP, 2007).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life under the so-called Normalization could be described by compromise and frustration resulting from unfulfilled expectations.
