On the Peaks of All the Beech Mountains, 2025

Under the beeches you will find a safe shelter, all your desires carved in the bark of the trees will come true. But there are places where a wrong has been done. Those at the bottom quickly gained the upper hand, pleas for life went unfulfilled, a feud outweighed all else, understanding other people’s suffering seemed to never have existed.

In the video “On the Peaks of All the Beech Mountains”, which will be produced as part of the residency at etc. gallery, Klára Trsková returns to the place of “Beech Mountain” in the Broumov region. Here, at the end of World War II, women, children and old people were murdered – solely on the basis that they belonged to the German-speaking population and that after their execution their property could be confiscated. More broadly, the video explores why it can take a long time to accept that there has been a role reversal between those who can’t defend themselves and live under the domination of the more powerful and those who have the power to take their lives.
